Under investigation
“You can search the whole world and never find another you!”
I remember being in school and learning the word unique and how each of us is unique, with our own experiences, gifts and goals. As time goes on in life I feel we often lose sight of that as our focus becomes more on external things. Achieving, accomplishing, checking off the things we are expected to have, become or need.
As I continue my own path of knowing myself and becoming I find that getting to know myself, my real wants, needs, aspirations is a life long investigation one that continues to show uncover new layers.
It is deeply personal work and one that is not often celebrated as something we should all be doing. I was speaking with a client the other day and she was speaking on how her life was to get a good job doing something sensible, find a good partner to provide, have kids and get a white picket fence. I feel like this is the story a lot of us were sold. And although she attained all those things she also said there was never a lot of conversation around her real desires, or plans for her own life or even taking time to get to know what she really wanted out of life.
As a first generation fully integrated child, I had options, different choices, freedom to explore myself and perhaps forge a new road. What I found and still see is not so much of a normalization around actually pursuing self discovery in a way that leads to knowledge of self and integrating that into your life’s work etc. Even with all these so called freedoms it seems that self is still not a place to be explored, revered and celebrated.
I seek to be a detective, a sleuth of self and uncover my own hidden treasures. Realize the depths of my own soul and figure out ways to create and express myself as fully as possible. Otherwise what are we even doing here in this limited time on Earth?
I invite you to become the lead investigator in your own life!
